Navigation is one of the more challenging aspects of Naval Action. Rather than providing players with a GPS style map with their position clearly marked on the map, the only thing players have access to is the compass and map.

Navigating

  • The principal issue is determining the position. When near ports the situation is simple enough, as their name is automatically shown when in world view. When away, it gets trickier - study the coastline relative to the compass directions and you can usually figure out where you are. Major geographical features, such as peninsulas, isthmuses, and small islands off the coast of larger landmasses help greatly in determining your current location.
  • The general rule for not getting lost in open seas is, well, not getting lost in the first place. Chart your course with a specific goal in mind and avoid changing it significantly while en route. While it's unusual to arrive exactly where you wanted, avoiding diversions and changes in sailing direction helps staying on course.
  • If all else is lost, teleporting to an outpost or capital helps get your bearings back. At the present, players can use the teleport feature once every 24h.
